Students/Parents Guide contains important information about Rainbow Schools

Students in Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin and Shining Tree will receive a Guide for Students and Parents the first week of school.  The guide contains important information that will serve as a handy reference throughout the school year.

“On behalf of Trustees, I would like to welcome all students and parents/guardians to Rainbow Schools and the start of another exciting school year,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair, Doreen Dewar. “The mission of Rainbow Schools and its staff is to bring learning to life in English and French Immersion from the early years to secondary school. We also instill in students values that build responsible and respectful citizens who care about each other and the world in which they live.”

Chair Dewar added: “As always, parents/guardians are encouraged to take an active interest in their child’s education. Parental involvement improves student achievement. We also welcome community partners to help us mentor and nurture their future workforce. When the home, the school and the community work together, we maximize learning opportunities for students and help them achieve their full potential.”

“The Guide for Students and Parents is our first step to enhance communication between the home and the school,” said Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “We invite parents/guardians and students to keep this publication as a handy reference throughout the year. It contains information about services, programs and policies, including the Code of Conduct. It also features key dates, such as school holidays, provincial assessments, professional activity days, secondary school examination days, open houses and system-wide events.”

He added: “Parents are important partners in education, so we invite parents to get involved in their child’s school. There are many opportunities for parents to contribute, including membership on School Councils.”

The new school year begins the day after Labour Day. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4, 2012 for all area school boards, including Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario. There will be no early dismissal on the first day.
