Sudbury Secondary School Celebrates 40 Years of Arts Education Excellence

Sudbury Secondary School will mark a major milestone this fall with a weekend celebration in honour of 40 years of arts education. From September 19 to 21, 2025, the event will bring together alumni, staff, and supporters to commemorate the school’s long-standing impact on the region’s arts and culture landscape.

The weekend begins Friday, September 19th, with a casual alumni music night at La Fromagerie Elgin. The evening will feature live performances from past students followed by karaoke. Seating is limited to 75 and advance tickets are required.

On Saturday, September 20th, guests will return to Sudbury Secondary School for a day-long “Artstravaganza.” Afternoon events run from 12 pm to 3 pm and include a gallery walk showcasing alumni and student work, food trucks, memorabilia displays, live music, and activities throughout the school. The evening will feature a formal “Showcase Spectacular” in the auditorium, followed by a “Sips & Savours Soirée” with curated hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Each ticket includes one complimentary beverage.

The celebration concludes Sunday, September 21st, with a brunch at the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club. Attendees will enjoy a buffet meal, live instrumental music, and time to reconnect with friends and faculty.

“As a former student, teacher, and now principal, I’ve had the unique privilege of experiencing the Sudbury Secondary School arts program from every perspective,” said Principal Heather Downey. “This celebration is about honouring the creativity, talent and community that have shaped this school for four decades and continuing that legacy for future generations.”

Early bird pricing is available until July 1st, and all proceeds will support student scholarships and legacy arts education projects. Those unable to attend in person are encouraged to donate or participate in the “Buy-A-Seat” campaign, which allows supporters to have their name engraved on an auditorium seat for $100.

Tickets, including option donations and full details, are available now through Eventbrite.
