Sudbury Secondary School hosts in-person Open House on January 11th

Grade 8 students and their parents/guardians are invited to an in-person Open House at Sudbury Secondary School on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 7 pm.

All students are welcome regardless of which elementary school they currently attend.

There will be information sessions and presentations during the Open House. Families will be able to tour the state-of-the-art facility and meet staff who will be pleased to answer questions.

“Sudbury Secondary School is well known for its arts education program which has a rich tradition of excellence,” says Principal Heather Downey. “We have a wonderful combination of arts, athletics and academics, which make Sudbury Secondary School a great place to learn for all fields of study.”

In addition to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, Sudbury Secondary School students can graduate with an Arts Education Certificate, a French Immersion Certificate, and/or a provincially recognized Specialist High Skills Major in one of three sectors: Arts and Culture – Fine Arts, Construction – Carpentry Techniques, and Health and Wellness – Child Care and Fitness. Prospective students will be able to explore the options at the Open House.

Arts Education includes comprehensive training in dance, theatre, instrumental music, vocal music, media studies and visual arts from educators who are specialists in their disciplines. Busing to the Arts Education Program is offered to students within Greater Sudbury.

Students enjoy learning in the spectacular arts wing which features a dance studio, drama studio/black box theatre, media lab with green screen, visual arts studios, Mac lab, photography classroom and darkroom, vocal and instrumental music rooms and practice rooms, and a 440-seat auditorium to showcase student talent. The classrooms and gymnasium have also been updated, making Sudbury Secondary School a modern and dynamic learning environment.
