Terry Fox Run: A long-standing tradition continues in Rainbow Schools

In September and October, students in Rainbow Schools will put their feet to the pavement to support The Terry Fox Foundation. A.B. Throughout September and October, students in Rainbow Schools will put their feet to the pavement in support of The Terry Fox Foundation. Terry Fox Runs are held annually in communities across Canada to raise funds for cancer research.

In the 2021-2022 school year, more than $26,700 was collected through school-based events. Over the years, Rainbow Schools have raised an incredible $963,000 to help achieve Terry’s vision – a world without cancer.

A.B. Ellis Public School
A.B. Ellis Public School will mark their 40th walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd at 11 am. This year, staff and students hope to raise $3,000 – adding to their lifetime contribution of $423,000 in support of Terry’s dream. Algonquin Road Public School
Throughout the week of September 19 to 22, students from Algonquin Road Public School will walk/run during physical education classes to recognize Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Students will watch a video about Terry’s lasting legacy. Donations are welcome through SchoolCash Online until September 23rd.

Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School will host a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 22nd at 2 pm in the schoolyard.

C.R. Judd Public School
C.R. Judd Public School will host a walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd at 2:15 pm. Students will gather in the school gym for a kick-off assembly before the walk.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
Students from Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will take part in a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 22nd. Staff and students will collect donations through a school-wide fundraiser.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School will participate in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run in the schoolyard on Wednesday, October 5th. In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place on Monday, October 10th. Students will also watch videos and participate in read alouds to learn more about Terry’s journey.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
Students from Chelmsford Valley District Composite School will walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd. Students will walk/run around the school track with staggered start times by division: 9:35 am for primary, 9:55 am for junior, 10:35 am for intermediate and 12:20 pm for seniors. A wrap-up assembly will take place at 2 pm. The top two student fundraisers from each division will select a teacher to “pie in the face.” Paper shoes dedicated to who students are walking for will be proudly displayed in the school.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
Students from Ernie Checkeris Public School will take part in a walk/run for the Terry Fox Foundation on Monday, September 26th. Staff and students will collect donations through a school-wide fundraiser.

Jean Hanson Public School
Students and staff from Jean Hanson Public School will walk, run or roll their wheelchairs for Terry Fox around the school yard and community on Thursday, September 22nd. Parents/guardians are welcome to join.

Lansdowne Public School
Lansdowne Public School will participate in a school-wide walk/run to commemorate Terry Fox on Monday, September 26th at 12:30 pm in the schoolyard.

Levack Public School
Levack Public School will walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd at 2:30 pm. Students will watch educational videos and read about Terry Fox’s lasting legacy. If possible, staff and students are encouraged to donate. Students will receive one ballot per donation. During an opening assembly, one lucky student will get the opportunity to pie the principal.

Little Current Public School
Little Current Public School is proud to participate in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run on Friday, October 7th at 2 pm in the school gym, playground and neighbouring community. All students will engage in various activities leading up to the event organized by a dedicated group of Grade 8 students. Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
Students from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will walk/run in memory of Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd. Students in Grades 9 to 12 will walk around the track in the morning, while students in Grades 7 and 8 will take part in the afternoon.

MacLeod Public School
MacLeod Public School will participate in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 22nd at 1:30 pm. Students will walk around Paris, York and Regent streets.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Students from Queen Elizabeth II Public School will walk/run for Terry Fox on Friday, September 30th at 2:15 pm around the school track. Donations are most welcome online.

R.H. Murray Public School
R.H. Murray Public School is a long-standing supporter of The Terry Fox Foundation. Students will walk or run during physical education class on Thursday, September 22nd.

R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School will participate in a walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd. All students will take part in the “Second Annual Beattie Runs Day”.  Students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 will run around the school track, while students in Grades 3 to 6 may run for fun or competitively. Donations for The Terry Fox Foundation will be collected.

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres will walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 22nd. Classes will participate individually in the school yard. Students are asked to bring a toonie for Terry.

S. Geiger Public School
S. Geiger Public School will take part in a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 22nd at 1:40 pm in the schoolyard. Families are invited to join. Students will join together for a kick-off assembly, and will also watch a motivational video from The Terry Fox Foundation. Online donations from families are welcome.

Valley View Public School
For 16 years, Valley View Public School has been a proud supporter of The Terry Fox Foundation. Students will walk/run around the schoolyard on Thursday, September 22nd in memory of loved ones who have experienced cancer. Students continue to find creative ways to collect donations including lemonade sales at home.

Walden Public School
Walden Public School will host the annual Terry Fox Walk on Thursday, September 22nd. Students will walk in the community along a pre-established route. Last year, students raised over $1,400 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Families are welcome to donate online.

Westmount Avenue Public School
Students from Westmount Avenue Public School are challenged to “Try like Terry”. In the lead up to the school-wide walk/run on Thursday, September 22nd, students in Grades 1 to 3 will walk one kilometre per day – two laps around the schoolyard – and will track their efforts on Mileage Markers as they learn about Terry’s achievements and raise money for cancer research.
