Terry Fox Run: A long-standing tradition continues in Rainbow Schools

Brody Perreault, a Grade 8 student from Lasalle Secondary School, canvassed the community and collected $410 - for a three-year grand total of $1,500 - in recognition of former Vice-Principal Lisa Puddester, the current Principal at Markstay Public School. In some Rainbow Schools, students will wear stickers to show who they are running for as the Marathon of Hope continues.

Throughout September and October, students in Rainbow Schools will participate in the Terry Fox Run to raise funds for cancer research. This year marks the 45th year of the Marathon of Hope.

Here’s a glimpse at what’s happening in Rainbow Schools:

A.B. Ellis Public School will host their 43rd walk/run for Terry Fox on Thursday, September 25th at 11:30 am. Last year, staff and students raised $755 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Families and community members are welcome to donate online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/107281.

Alexander Public School participated in a walk/run in grades around the schoolyard and community on Thursday, September 18th. Staff and students were inspired by Terry’s vision of a world without cancer.

Algonquin Road Public School students recognized Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope with a walk/run during physical education classes on Thursday, September 18th. Students watched a video about Terry’s lasting legacy. Donations are welcome through SchoolCash Online until Friday, September 26th.

Assiginack Public School students in Grade 6/7 are proud to organize and host this year’s Terry Fox Run on Thursday, October 2nd. This year’s goal is to raise $1,500 in support of cancer research. If students reach their goal, staff will take part in a hot dog eating contest. Families are encouraged to support through monetary donations and encouragement as students run for a great cause. Assiginack thanks the community for helping to keep Terry’s vision alive.

C.R. Judd Public School will host its annual school-wide Terry Fox Walk/Run in the schoolyard on Thursday, September 25th. Students will wear stickers to display who they are running for. Classes will also learn about the legacy of Terry Fox and how to make a difference. Donations are welcome online: https://schools.terryfox.ca/CRJuddPSCapreol.

Charles C. McLean Public School will participate in a schoolwide Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 25th in the community.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School will take part in the annual Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 25th. Students, staff and families will walk in the community to honour Terry’s legacy with a focus of raising awareness and celebrating perseverance. This year’s assembly will feature a Terry Fox Ambassador Q&A. Community involvement is encouraged.

Churchill Public School will take part in a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 25th. Older students will buddy up with younger students to walk the perimeter of the schoolyard, while others run. Funds collected will support the Terry Fox Foundation.

Confederation Secondary School will host its annual Terry Fox Walk on Thursday, September 25th from 1 pm to 2 pm. Students and staff will join together to honour Terry Fox and his inspiring Marathon of Hope. Students are encouraged to contribute a Toonie for Terry, and donations are welcome through SchoolCash Online until Friday, September 26th or through the school’s Terry Fox Foundation fundraising page. The entire Confederation Secondary School community continues to support cancer research and carry on Terry’s legacy of hope and determination.

Lansdowne Public School will proudly honour the legacy of Terry Fox on Monday, September 29th. The day will kick off with an assembly in the gym where students will learn about Terry’s incredible journey and the Marathon of Hope. Students and staff will then join together for a schoolyard walk to celebrate Terry’s spirit of hope, courage and determination. Donations are welcome in support of the Terry Fox Foundation, helping to carry on Terry’s mission of a world without cancer.

Larchwood Public School will proudly participate in a Terry Fox Walk on Thursday, September 25th at 1:35 pm. Students will learn about Terry’s story, his achievements and what makes him a Canadian hero during morning announcements led by students in Grade 5/6. Students and staff are encouraged to bring in a Toonie for Terry. Prior to beginning the walk, students will share who they are walking/running for and then the entire school community will gather outside for a walk in the schoolyard.

Lasalle Elementary School students will take part in a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 25th in the afternoon. Students will learn about Terry Fox’s legacy and the Marathon of Hope, and discussions will take place in groups. Staff and students will collect donations through a schoolwide fundraiser. Online donations are encouraged.

Levack Public School students took part in a walk/run for Terry Fox on Friday, September 19th. Donations are welcome through the school’s fundraising page.

Little Current Public School will host a Terry Fox event on Thursday, September 25th at 2 pm. To kickstart the event, students will learn about Terry Fox’s legacy and the Marathon of Hope, followed by a walk in the schoolyard and the surrounding community. Staff, students and community members are invited to make a donation in support of the Terry Fox Foundation online here: https://schools.terryfox.ca/105243.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will once again participate in a walk/run for Terry Fox. Staff and students will join together in support of the Marathon of Hope on Wednesday, September 24th at 10 am.

MacLeod Public School will participate in the annual Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 25th at 9:30 am. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 will walk/run in the schoolyard, while students in Grades 3 to 8 will walk around Paris, Walford and Regent streets.

Markstay Public School will host a Terry Fox Run on Wednesday, September 24th in the schoolyard. The entire school community is encouraged to wear red and white. Primary students and staff will walk/run the perimeter of the schoolyard, while junior and intermediate students and staff will walk/run in the community. Toonies for Terry are welcome.

Monetville Public School will kick off the Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 25th with a schoolwide assembly. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will walk/run an established route in the community. Students were encouraged to donate a toonie in support of the Terry Fox Foundation.

Northeastern Elementary School will host a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Wednesday, September 24th. Students will gather outdoors to walk around the school track from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Students are encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry or make a donation online here: https://schools.terryfox.ca/108022.

Princess Anne Public School students will walk/run for Terry Fox in the school community on Thursday, September 25th. Donations are welcome online.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School students will walk/run around the school track on Thursday, September 25th in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. Students will join together for a schoolwide assembly to learn about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.

R.H. Murray Public School will host an assembly to celebrate Terry Fox on Thursday, September 25th in the gym. During a special presentation, Grade 7 students will speak about the life and legacy of Terry Fox. Following the assembly, students will run/jog for five laps around the field to commemorate Terry Fox’s sacrifice in the search for a cure for cancer.

Redwood Acres Public School students will walk/run around the perimeter of the school for 30 minutes in honour of Terry Fox on Thursday, September 25th. Students will learn about Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope through various indoor activities. Students will prepare their own messages of hope and are encouraged to bring in a Toonie for Terry.

S. Geiger Public School will participate in a Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday, September 25th at 1:45 pm in the schoolyard. Families are welcome. Students will watch a motivational video from The Terry Fox Foundation and join together for a kick-off assembly. Online donations from families are welcome.

Walden Public School will host the annual Terry Fox Walk on Thursday, September 25th. This event will bring together students, staff and family members for a community walk on an established route. Families are welcome and encouraged to contribute to this worthwhile cause through online donations.

Westmount Avenue Public School students joined together for a sensory walk in celebration of Terry Fox’s legacy on Friday, September 19th. Students were encouraged to make a donation and to wear red and white.

Valley View Public School will participate in a Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 25th, weather permitting. The fundraising goal is set at $4,500 in recognition of the Marathon’s 45th anniversary. Students can also purchase Terry Fox t-shirts, collect monetary donations, or donate to the Terry Fox Foundation online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/ValleyViewPSValCaron.
