Warren Central Public School closes at the end of June
Students in program of revitalization at Markstay Public School this fall
At the regular Board meeting on May 20th, 2008, Rainbow District School Board trustees decided to close Warren Central Public School at the end of the school year. Students will be included in the program of revitalization at Markstay Public School effective September 2008.
Given the small cohort at Warren Central Public School, with 10 full-time equivalent students projected for September, Chair Hunda said the Board agreed with Administrative Council’s recommendation that students be included in the program of revitalization at Markstay Public School.
“The mandate was to maximize student learning within the resources available to the Board in keeping with two guiding principles – to ensure that all students continue to have access to the best programming possible in quality school facilities and to reduce surplus space,” said Chair Hunda. “In making tonight’s decision, we put student learning first and foremost.”
Warren Central Public School will be disposed of in accordance with The Education Act which will provide an opportunity for the Municipality of Markstay/Warren to express an interest.
The Board will also approach the Sudbury Student Services Consortium to ensure that Warren students are transported to Markstay in the most efficient way possible, keeping the length of bus times and transfers to a minimum.
