Vanessa Catto – Teacher – Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
Vanessa Catto supports student engagement in arts, athletics and academics. A gifted Visual Arts and International Baccalaureate (IB) teacher at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Vanessa inspires students to take risks, express themselves, and see value in their creative contributions. The annual IB Art Show showcases student talent and elevates the profile of arts education in the school community. Student work is also shared in the broader community through professional displays presented in partnership with the Sudbury Art Gallery. At Lo-Ellen Park, Vanessa transforms common spaces into vibrant galleries to celebrate student voice and school pride. Anthony Cecchetto – Teacher – Valley View Public School

Mike Gaudin – Custodian – R.H. Murray Public School
Mike Gaudin has devoted more than three decades of service to Rainbow District School Board, including the last six years as Custodian at R.H. Murray Public School. Bill Tulloch – Community Coach – Alexander Public School
Bill Tulloch, affectionately known as “Coach Bill”, displays an unwavering dedication to students at Alexander Public School where he has served as a community coach for several years. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AWARDS

Douglas A. Smith Family Foundation
For over 15 years, Manitoulin Secondary School and Charles C. McLean Public School have shared a partnership with the Douglas A. Smith Family Foundation. Thanks to their immense generosity, Manitoulin Secondary School students have benefited from upgraded athletic scoreboards, improved stage and auditorium facilities, a soundproof music room, indoor table tennis and resurfaced tennis courts – which enabled the school to host the NOSSA Tennis Championships. The Foundation’s support has strengthened digital arts, transportation technology, and athletic programming including archery and alpine skiing, offering opportunities for students to participate and compete. Their support revitalized the Manitoulin Metal Robotics team and made them a key sponsor of the Lo-Ellen Park Robotics team. At Charles C. McLean Public School, ongoing funding continues to enhance physical education, music and technology programming for elementary students. Francisca Gonzales, YMCA Northeastern Ontario
Francisca Gonzalez leads the YMCA Settlement Worker in Schools Program that supports newcomers. Program staff work closely with Rainbow District School Board and local organizations to ensure that families experience a smooth transition to the community. They provide guidance and resources to newcomers, assisting with information, referrals and more. The Settlement Workers help with the enrolment process, ensuring that students start school as soon as possible. The impact of the program was evident when the Board hosted an evening for newcomers at its Welcome Centre last spring. Newcomers spoke highly of the Settlement Workers and the impact of the YMCA on making their transition to a new community successful. They were grateful to receive information about summer programs for their children. Settlement Workers often attend school and board events, making newcomer families feel supported throughout the year. The YMCA’s focus on community and collaboration make them a valued partner. Sue Stevens and Ed Schillemore understand that when children are nourished, they are better able to learn, grow and thrive. Matt Stillwaugh, Matt’s Plumbing
Matt Stillwaugh believes that no family should be without a turkey for Christmas dinner. In 2019, he donated 40 turkeys to his children’s school to distribute to families. The following year, Mr. Stillwaugh partnered with plumbing contractors and, together, they donated 300 turkeys for families in 15 schools. Since then, the Turkeys for Families initiative has become an annual tradition. Just before the winter break, trucks make their way to Rainbow Schools with turkeys destined for families for the holidays – all because of Matt’s Plumbing and the local businesses who share his vision. This Community Partnership Award is a tribute to Matt Stillwaugh’s leadership and the generosity of Matt’s Plumbing and the many donors who support the Turkeys for Families initiative – year after year. Thank you for spreading kindness and joy during the festive season. Turkeys bring families together to create memories that last a lifetime. We are truly grateful.

GO GREEN GLOBE AWARDS

Lansdowne Public School
At Lansdowne Public School, staff and students are immersed in all things green. Outdoor learning is rich with Indigenous perspectives, helping students build a deeper, more meaningful connection to the natural world. School-wide environmental challenges such as Take Me Outside Day, Sweater Day, and Lights Out Lunches inspire everyday energy conservation. Hands-on gardening programs – enhanced through community partnerships – bring food systems to life, while the school grounds flourish with vibrant flowers and abundant food gardens. Kayla’s Gift Exchange transforms gently used toys, jewelry and other items into heartfelt holiday gifts for family members and friends. The school community collects pop tabs, nearly reaching their goal to fund a wheelchair, and binders are reused for Grade 7 and 8 students. With green bins in washrooms, a low-impact breakfast program, and a strong push for eco-friendly transportation when possible, environmental stewardship is woven into daily life at Lansdowne Public School. MacLeod Public School
MacLeod Public School is leading the way in environmental education and sustainability, earning a Platinum certification – the highest level awarded through EcoSchools Canada. The school has an upcycling and sorting station where various plastic items are collected and repurposed for sustainable art. Good On One Side paper is a common practice throughout the school, and students use birch bark during paper free days. A vertical tower garden grows lettuce, herbs and tomatoes that are harvested for nutritious salads and shared meals. Members of the school’s ECO Club lead composting efforts by emptying and preparing classroom green bins each week. They also educate and motivate their peers by sharing best practices during daily morning announcements. Staff members also encourage colleagues to drive meaningful change and sustainable action to support a greener future for all. Dawn Roque has devoted 25 years of service to the Manitoulin Secondary School community. In collaboration with Information Services, Dawn introduced interactive search stations to the library to enhance the student experience. Beyond the library, Dawn manages budgets for robotics, co-curriculars and athletics. Her precision and attention to detail are essential to the success of the annual musical and awards programs. She also serves as Treasurer of the Manitoulin Student Aid Fund, which supports students pursuing post-secondary education. Dawn co-ordinates field trip forms to ensure students are prepared for experiential learning opportunities.
