Secondary School Exams

Secondary school students are now required to write final exams in most subject areas.

In Grades 9 and 10, a student’s final mark will be based on:

◆ 65% classroom work
◆ 20% final evaluations
◆ 15% attendance and participation

In Grades 11 and 12, a student’s final mark will be based on:

◆ 65% classroom work
◆ 25% final evaluations
◆ 10% attendance and participation

A written exam may be combined with another culminating demonstration of learning, depending on the subject and course code. Schools will share assessment details with students and parents/guardians at the beginning of each semester.

Exams will be scheduled on the following dates:

◆ Semester 1: January 25 to 29, 2027
◆ Semester 2: June 24 to 30, 2027

IMPORTANT: Students are required to be in attendance for exams.

Parents/Guardians: Please note the examination dates and avoid scheduling vacations during the examination period. Students may receive a mark of zero and a failing grade in the course if they are not present to write the exam.

Attendance in secondary schools

For secondary students, attendance and participation in class will now count towards final marks. In Grades 9 and 10, a student’s final mark will be based on 15% attendance and participation in class. In Grades 11 and 12, a student’s final mark will be based on 10% attendance and participation in class.

Excused absences will not impact a student’s final mark.

Excused absences include illness, unavoidable circumstances like inclement weather, and cultural or holy days.

Detailed expectations about attendance and participation in class will be shared with parents/guardians and students at the beginning of each semester.

The new requirements related to assessment, evaluation, attendance and participation for secondary school students were mandated by the Ministry of Education as of the 2026-2027 school year.
