Seven Grandfather Awards 

Seven Grandfather Awards

All secondary schools will continue to offer the Seven Grandfather Awards. Using criteria created by staff, students and Elders, schools will select award recipients representing each of the Seven Grandfather Teachings:

  • Bravery – Aakedhewin – The bear
  • Honesty – Gwekwaadziwin – The raven
  • Humility – Dbaadendiziwin – The wolf
  • Love – Zaagidwin – The eagle
  • Respect – Mnaadendmowin – The buffalo
  • Truth – Debwewin – The turtle
  • Wisdom – Nbwaakaawin – The beaver

These awards were originally created at the Mishko-Ode-Wendam School. The awards were created in partnership with Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre and Rainbow District School Board and they are one way to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous students throughout our schools.
